what’s new in 2.0

01. Introduction

This is a model of Pharah from Overwatch. I decided to make this after I got fed up with the limitations of Source FilmMaker. The model is made for Blender 2.79 and the reason for that is the Principled Shader.

The model is rigged and comes with various armor parts which you can toggle on and off. It also uses a bodymorph so you can adjust various things such as body weight, breasts size and so on.

04. User guide

This guide is intended for all users regardless of their level of experience. Even if you're good with Blender and think you can guess your way around using using this model, you should at the very least read the red parts. Let's get to it.


4.1 structure

I tried to structure the model in such a way that is internally consistent and fairly intuitive. Outfits and elements that go together (such armor sets) are generally grouped on the same layer. Elements that have their own bones have those bones situated on the same layer of the rig (more on that below). As far naming elements and materials go, I tried to follow the following format: TYPE---element-group__element-type.

Here is how the items are broken down by layers:


4.2 The rig

The model uses the PitchiPoy rig and in addition to the body controls, I also added bones for armor parts, hair or pieces of clothing. The rig also has controls for the face which you should use every time.

As mentioned above, each element that has a bone to control it, has that bone located on the correspondent rig's layer. For example the ponytail is on this this layer in the scene, and the bones for it are on this layer of the rig. Here is an overview of the rig's layers: There are two tips for people who use this rig to avoid some common mistakes I've seen:

  1. Use the hair bones especially for the hair accessories. For example: without hair posing, and with hair posing.
  2. Use the tweak bones especially on the arms and legs, for better deformations. For example here is how a pose might look by default. After using the tweak bones, it would look like this.


4.3 materials

There are 3 categories of materials:

  1. Normal materials: specific to individual items, and named accordigly. For example, the sports shoes ( OTFT--sports__shoes) and most of the items from the sports outfit use the same materials ( OTFT--sports__green, OTFT--sports__blue, OTFT--sports__white etc.)
  2. Customizable color materials: you recognize these by their name, as they have "RGB" in the title. For example, the sports shoes have the following RGB materials: OTFT--sports__RGB, OTFT--sports__RGB-2, OTFT--sports__RGB-3. What separates these sort of materials from normal ones is that you can set whatever color you want for them. To do that select the RGB material () and go to the Node editor () and change the color in the RGB node(s).
  3. Universal materials: which are not specific to any one item and have the name OTFT--any__ ... (). These can be applied to any item, although they are intended for a more specific subset of them (bodysuit, stockings, tanktop etc). Currently there are 3 universal materials available (latex, leather, textile) in 3 color variations (white, black, RGB). For examples, you can apply these to the stockings (along with a mask) and get a decent looking pair of socks. You can find more examples in the combos section of the guide.


4.4 masks

This model uses masks () a lot to make elements fit well together, such as hiding the human arms in order to use the metal arms, otherwise you'll get clipping. Each item has its masks listed below.

Some items (such as the bodysuit) have more than one mask which you can combine to come up with some interesting results. The main thing you need to know about using multiple masks is that they are applied by intersection. To illustrate this, let's say you'd want to come up with this look for the bodysuit. This is how you'd need to combine the masks to get the desired result:


4.5 shapekeys

The body is based on build-a-bod model and by default comes with a ton of shape keys (). You can use these to change almost every aspect of the body such as breasts size and shape, body fat, fitness and much more. You can also use shapekeys for lewds such as spreading the vagina.

In addition to the default shapekys that the model comes with, there are also some correction shapekeys (called "COR-...") which are automatically driven by bending the arms and legs. Besides those I also included shapkeys for arms muscles ("FLEX-arm"), and you'll have the same shapekeys for items such as the bodysuit, while for others such as the jacket you can just tone down the muscles as it wouldn't be very visible anyway. Bare in mind that all the outfits were designed to be used with the default bodymorph values and changing those values might result in the clothes no longer fitting properly.

There are a few other items that also have a shapekey (such as the default armor's legs, abdomen plate or bikini) which are used for various combos (in this case for using over the bodysuit, so that the armor comes above them).


4.6 modifiers

Something else that needs mentioning is the other modifiers:

  • Subdivision surface: by default would will get some minor clipping. Don't panic. Those usually are usually not an issue when you enable the subsurface modifier (or when you render a scene).
  • Solidify: use this to give some thickness to some elements (such as the bodysuit or stockings), just make sure to not use them on transparent materials or it won't look good.
  • Particles: are only used for the pubic hair. You can play around with those values to tweak it.


4.7 Body

The core part of the whole model. It comes with different materials () such as wet, tanlines or possessed.

Then there are the masks (). You can use these to “cut off” the hands, arms and legs so that the body can be used with the armors, otherwise you'll get clipping.There body has 2 masks, for arms and legs, which you can toggle on or off based on your needs. The masks use the following 3 vertex groups ():

  • MSK-hands: this will allow you to use the human arms with the metal hands. If you find that the “gloves” from the armor are too long by default then you should toggle on the masks on the armors’s hands, to shorten them like in the first picture.
  • MSK-arms: this is for when you want to have the human body with the metal arms
  • MSK-legs: this is for when you want to have the human body with the metal legs

NB: the nipples are hidden by default so that you can use the sports top or tank top easily. If you want to go topless, you need to change the PBMNipples shape key () from “0” to “1”.

The Raptora suit comes in several variations: default (with 3 color variations), possessed and jackal (plus anubis). The difference between them are the materials (). The geometry is the same (apart from Jackal/Anubis that has a different helmet).

By default, the mask looks good when held in hand or placed somewhere. But when wearing the jackal helmet, the hair will clip a lot though it, so enable this mask to solve this problem.

4.13 Rock outfit

This is a collection of items I wanted to use (leather jacket, high heel boots, stockings, tanktop) so decided to just group them under a single group.

How to use the boots: Using the boots involves a bit of trickery. As you might notice, by default they are deformed. What you need to do is change the pose of the bones as follows: rotate the feet bones first, and then rotate the toe bones. You’ll end up with the feet fitting nicely in the boots.

This is a single piece of outfit but it’s a very versatile one. It can work very well by itself, in conjunction with the armor or other outfits. It has a lot of masks that can make this look like a pair of pants or a swimsuit, among others. It also comes with a mask for lewds. 05. FAQ

Let’s say you’re working on a file and you want to import this Pharah model. How can you do it?

  1. In the File menu () go to File ⇾ Append. This will open up the file browser.
  2. There, select the Pharah .blend file. Click to open it and then select Scene \ Scene (this will import the whole scene)
  3. Next, in the Outliner () you should have your list of scenes. Select the latest scene (might be called Scene.001), which is the one you just appended
  4. In the new scene, select the layers you want to copy to your main scene
  5. With those layers selected, press “A” to select everything
  6. Press “Space” to open up the Finder and select the option “Link Objects to scene”
  7. Go back to your main scene and that should be it


If you’re looking to play around with different outfits, there are a lot of options to choose from.

DAZ3D has a huge collection of clothings items, but they can end up costing quite a bit. Renderosity has a solid collection of items at a more reasonable price.

However if free is what you’re looking for then SFMLab has a nice collection to choose from (you will need to make an account and log in to see NSFW models too).

Deviantart is a fantastic source of models which often gets overlooked. You can check out the pages of StickLove and XNALara for starters as they both have a huge collections of models to choose from. However if you’re not afraid to go in for a deeper look, you can try the general search and you might come across artists hidden gems such as Zareef’s collection of models.

Lastly, in SFM-land MrSmugBastard / RedMenace have a small collection of models but they all come with a huge numbers of outfits attached (including NSFW variations)

Bare in mind that regardless of where you’re



You’ll need to upgrade to Blender 2.79 as this model does not support earlier versions. That is because I’ve made use of the Pincipled Shader which makes using shaders way easier than before but is only available in Blender 2.79

As you might have seen, the materials of the body are provided as textures so if you want to change things such as the roughness of the skin, or making the skin darker you will need to edit the textures, which are provided as PSDs. If you don’t have Photoshop but are using Windows or OSX, I would recommend using Affinity Designer which is just as powerful but actually affordable.

  • fixed head skin becoming visible if dragging the eyebrows too much
  • fixed the tongue having some unconnected vertices
  • various clipping fixes

Improvements:

  • redid a lot of the weightpainting for better deformation
  • redid the eye and hair material (better than before although I’m still not 100% happy with them)
  • renamed materials, models and textures for better consistency
  • added a version of the skin with no scar (for those who don’t like the default scar I added on her abdomen)

  • fixed normal maps (they used to be connected to the wrong nodes)
  • fixed limbs stretching when dragging the rig controls too far (thanks to miaw34 for suggesting this one)

Improvements:

  • various adjustments and tweaks to the textures
  • added speculars map for the body (to get the eyelashes and eyebrows darker)
  • reduced the radius of the subsurface scattering (thanks to licentiouscg for suggesting this one)
  • merged hair accesories and hair strands into a single object
